Dover Athletic assistant boss Jake Leberl says Whites hope to make more signings ahead of the new Vanarama National League season

Dover Athletic assistant boss Jake Leberl says there is still more business to be done in the transfer market as Whites apply the final touches to their Vanarama National League season preparations.

Whites’ league campaign kicks off at Barrow next Saturday (August 8) and there should be some more new faces in the squad before then.

Leberl said: “We are three short of where we want to be at this stage because we don’t yet have enough depth in the squad to cover injuries and suspensions but we are not about to rush in and sign anyone to do it.

"We don’t just make decisions willy-nilly when it comes to signing players. It’s got to be right for the club – so that can take time.

“Saying that, I am confident that we’ll have a couple in before the big kick-off.”
Whites suffered a third defeat in six pre-season friendlies, losing 1-0 at Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday night.

The home side scored the only goal when Kenzer Lee headed past Whites goalkeeper Andy Rafferty in the 17th minute.

But Leberl was not concerned with the result. He said: “Again, the game gave us an opportunity to have a look at few trialists and try a couple of things. It’s also more minutes in the legs for the squad in a competitive environment.”

Whites wrap up their pre-season campaign with a trip to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.
