Chris Kinnear says Dover can't feel sorry for themselves after missing out on play-off place

Chris Kinnear was says Dover can’t feel sorry for themselves after losing out on a National League play-off place by goal difference.

In the last match of the season, at Woking on Saturday, they won 2-1 but results did not go their way and they finished eighth in the table.

Giancarlo Gallifuoco’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Charlie Carter’s strike. When the match looked to be heading for a draw, Keanu-Marsh Brown slotted home the winner in added time.

Kinnear said: “It wasn’t the greatest game but to lose out on goal difference is ridiculous really.

“We didn’t play that well today as it’s just caught up with us because they are all young lads in there.

“They are all disappointed but you can’t feel sorry for yourself and have to move on for next August.

“Last August we didn’t have any players at the end of the day we have put together a very good young side. Hopefully we can keep most of them together.”

Dover will look back on what could have been as just a solitary point would have earned them a play-off place.

Whites won just three of their last eight matches in the league and conceded last-minute goals in their defeats at Eastleigh, Ebbsfleet and Maidenhead.

Kinnear said: “That point we can pick it out in the last month with those goals we threw away. We are disappointed but I’m very proud of the players.

“Everyone is in good spirits after the game. You had Ricky Miller turn up for the match. If he didn’t think the world of the club and the club didn’t treat players right then someone like him wouldn’t turn up.”

Woking were relegated after suffering defeat to Dover and will also rue missed opportunities.

Had they won the game they would have saved themselves as Barrow lost at home to Chester 2-1.

Kinnear added: “I thought Woking were brilliant. They worked really hard and I really feel for them.

“We come down here and it’s probably one of the nice clubs you could see. People always make everyone welcome and they have a bit of class and dignity. I’m sure they will get themselves back up straight away.”
