AFC Fylde 3 Dover Athletic 1 match report

Chris Kinnear’s 1,500 managerial outing didn’t go quite to plan as Fylde leap-frogged Dover into the Vanarama National League play-off places following a resounding 3-1 victory at Mill Farm.

Mitch Pinnock’s tap-in early in the second half gave Dover the advantage, but Fylde’s response was swift and devastating as first Danny Rowe, followed by substitutes Serhat Tasdemir and James Hardy, struck to condemn the visitors to defeat.

Whites boss Kinnear made one change to the side that beat Dagenham in midweek, with new loan signing Azeez Adebayo making his debut in place of Anthony Jeffrey. Andy Bond, Jack Muldoon, Jason Taylor and Henry Jones all came into Fylde’s line-up following Tuesday’s loss at bottom of the table Guiseley.

The first half began with plenty of attacking intent from both teams, despite the icy, swirling wind’s attempts to disrupt matters.

Half chances from the wide areas came and went before the home side turned up the pressure. Rowe was stopped at close range by Mitch Walker from a sumptuous Sam Finley centre, before Dover’s number one was called upon again to smother at the feet of Jack Muldoon. Jason Taylor also tested the visiting keeper from a corner, but Whites stood firm and weathered the pressure.

Fylde’s best opening was still to come, with Henry Jones skying over from close range after being put through by Finley. Ryan Bird’s response for the visitors was a scuffed effort from Azeez Adebayo’s cross, that trickled agonisingly wide.

Dover’s top scorer had the first meaningful chance of the second half, but his shot from 10 yards was blocked by Simon Grand. A second chance wasn’t long in coming, and it brought with it the opener.

Josh Passley took off down the right, superbly beat his man, and his cross was flicked on by Azeez for the unmarked Pinnock to tap home at the far post.

Fylde hit back with a succession of corners, but still couldn’t beat Walker, who inexplicably kept out a Simon Grand header with his face. Unfortunately, he wasn’t so lucky with Fylde’s next effort. Rowe, the league’s leading scorer, was given time outside the box to pick his spot in the bottom corner for his 25th of the season.

With 20 minutes remaining Dover were hanging on, and after Finley worked Walker from distance, they fell behind. Teenage substitute Serhat Tasdemir turned in the box and fired past Walker.

The one-way traffic continued to the end, with Grand having another header from a corner cleared off the line and Zaine Francis-Angol seeing his shot saved, before the points were sealed in stoppage time.

Rowe fed Tasdemir, whose subsequent shot rebounded off the post straight to Hardy, who blasted home from a yard out.
