Fire destroys thousands of hay bales

Fire has destroyed 10,000 bales of hay at West Hougham.

The fire broke out at a farm in West Hougham, between Dover and Folkestone. Graphic: Ashley AustenFire crews were called to the scene at 11.10pm Tuesday when flames were seen coming from a barn at Court Farm in Hougham Court Lane, between Dover and Folkestone.

At the height of the blaze, around 30 firefighters were tackling the flames and trying to prevent them from spreading to other nearby farm buildings.

Crews were expected to remain at the scene all day Wednesday and possibly Thursday to let the fire burn itself out. Hougham Court Lane has been closed to traffic.

Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of the blaze.
