Transport Minister to visit Deal

Lord AdonisTransport Secretary Lord Adonis is coming to Deal to find out people’s opinions on the train services to London.

The pledge has been made to Deal MP Gywn Prosser, who met him last week to discuss the Trains4Deal campaign.

Speaking after the meeting the MP said: “Lord Adonis is well aware of my support for the new high speed train service to Dover but he also knows about my concerns that Deal is missing out both in terms of its high speed deficit and the negative impact the new trains are having on domestic services.

“I raised these concerns with him again and provided him with cuttings from the East Kent Mercury, as well as extracts from the trains4Deal campaigning material, and he has promised to respond to my representations.

“He also agreed to visit my Dover and Deal constituency with me in the coming months to glean a personal view of people’s opinions on the new high speed train service.”

The announcement of the Transport Secretary’s visit is good news for the campaigners, who are continuing to work hard to win their arguments.

    Guards on High Sopeed Train

On Paul's point, I was told in Deal station the trains had no guard until Dover as there are no passengers. However, as they shuttle up and down to London until late, these two units would not be passing back through Deal until pretty late, so either a shuttle or a whole new timetable is needed.

The most important issue for many people in our area is the reinstatement of the previous timetable of trains to Charing Cross.Arrival to central London is more convienient for theatre, museums, shopping etc, over 2 1/2hrs travelling discourages us from useing the train. We are now going to London by National Express coach.

Can Southeast Trains confirm or deny the rumour that the only reason the two early Javelins don't stop at Deal and Sandwich as they pass through from the depot in Ramsgate to the start point in Dover in the morning is because they don't have a guard on them until they reach Dover and another crew take over?

Forget electioneering Mr Prosser. Why, on your patch, was a conurbation of over 30,000 missed out of the fast train loop when villages of 3,000 were included? This arrangement is so blatantly undemocratic, somebody with common sense needs to reconfigure the route and reach the right and just conclusion: fast train stops at Deal. Also, for the regular Deal-Charing Cross train, to revert to the previous timetable.

Why is Gwyn Prosser only now putting time into Deal's cause? Why now? Election due? What kind of democracy have we got which only enables us to discuss issues once they become a fait a compli?
