Video: Police at the scene of the crash in Guston

A woman, believed to be from Deal, is fighting for her life after a crash on the A2 at Guston, near Dover.

A lorry driver has been arrested after the crash, between the A258 Duke of York’s roundabout and the A256 junction for the Eastry bypass to Sandwich.

The woman was flown to a London hospital after the crash, between an HGV and two cars yesterday afternoon.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition today after suffering injuries described as life-threatening. Three other people were taken to Ashford’s William Harvey Hospital with minor injuries.

The lorry driver has been arrested in connection with the crash and released on bail until May 7 pending further inquiries.

Emergency services, including two air ambulances, were called to the smash at about 2.10pm.

That section of the A2 was closed in both directions for more than six hours while crash investigators worked at the scene.

The crash involved a white lorry with green markings, a silver Skoda and a silver Alfa.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews worked to rescue some of the vehicle occupants and two air ambulances landed at the scene.

Police are keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle travelling in front of the lorry before the crash.

Insp Martin Stevens, from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Thank you to everyone who has contacted us with information about this incident. I'd urge anyone else who may have information that could help with our enquiries to contact us.

"We are particularly keen to speak with the driver of an unknown car who was travelling in front of the lorry before the collision as they may have information which could help with our investigation."

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
