Last-ditch bid to save school
A heart
A plea has been made by Save Walmer Science College campaigners
for people to take advantage of the final opportunity to comment on
the plans to shut the school in August.
It came at a public meeting on Tuesday at Deal Town Hall, organised
by Save WSC in the final week of its fight to halt the proposed
closure.
About 70 people attended including Deal MP Charlie Elphicke,
councillors, parents and pupils, one in tears.
Campaigner Gillian Chiverton said urged people who cared about the
education of the children of Deal and Walmer to write immediately
to the county council to express their concerns.
Andy Roberts opened the meeting and explained that its purpose was
to increase the response from local people before the end of the
consultation period on Thursday, February 28.
Letters can be written to Marisa
White, Area Education Officer, East Kent Education Office, Clover
House, John Wilson Business Park, Thanet Way, Whitstable, Kent CT5
3QZ, to arrive by 5pm on Thursday, February 28.
The
district council has a scrutiny meeting looking into education
across the district. It starts at 6pm on Wednesday at the Landmark
Centre, Deal.
See this week's East Kent Mercury for the full
story.
