A Dover woman is representing Kent in an international beauty
competition.
Jennifer Byrne, who is 22, was invited to take part in the Miss
Intercontinental Pageant by the organisers after she contacted an
agency about acting opportunities.
Jennifer is a member of the St Margaret’s Players, appearing as
Yvette in their production of ‘Allo ‘Allo and now rehearsing for
their next show, Alice in Wonderland, when she will play the
Cheshire Cat.
She is appealing to businesses to sponsor her for the
competition, for which she needs three dresses of various styles
and a swimsuit.
Educated at Dover Girls’ Grammar School, she went to Cardiff
University where she graduated in applied psychology after a
four-year course.
Currently working in New Look in Dover, Jennifer is looking for
a career in advertising and merchandising.
“I had always been interested in modelling, but until now I
hadn’t had the opportunity,” she said. "Doing this has really
boosted my confidence.”
The contestant who will represent England in the Miss
Intercontinental finals will be chosen on April 21 in Manchester, a
week before Jennifer’s 23rd birthday.
“I have to wear a gold or silver dress which is above the knee,
a fashion dress and a full-length evening gown. Then there is a
swimsuit section, and an interview so they can judge our
personality.
“I have already got some support from businesses in Kent to help
with my appearance. Bronzed and Beautiful in Ashford and Beauty
Matters in New Street, Dover, have agreed to help me.
“I would like to hear from anyone else who can help me with my
hair, nails and various outfits.”
