Driver arrested after boy, 13, dies in digger crash on A2 near Dover

A motorist has been arrested after a crash with a
digger that killed a 13-year-old passenger, it is emerged.
The 47-year-old man was held on suspicion of causing
the boy's death by dangerous driving. He has now been released on
police bail until June 26.
The driver and a 15-year-old boy, who was also a passenger,
suffered minor injuries in the crash on the A2 near Dover on
Friday.
The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the
smash in Shepherdswell at around 12.45am.
The silver Skoda Octavia collided with an orange
Komatsu digger on the London-bound carriageway.
The A2 was closed in both directions until around 8am while
emergency services cleared the scene and carried out an
investigation.
The driver of the digger was not injured in the crash,
which happened just more than two miles north of the Whitfield
roundabout on a single-carriageway section of the A2.
