Dover Athletic manager Nicky Forster insists the Whites can win Blue Square Bet South, despite losing three straight

Dover Athletic manager Nicky Forster admits his side’s run of three straight defeats is worrying but insists they can still win Blue Square Bet South.

Last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Staines left Whites eight points adrift of leaders Salisbury and six points behind second-placed Welling, having played two games more than their rivals.

Forster (pictured) said: "We’ve lost three in a row, which is a worrying statistic. It’s disappointing, to lose a game at home and to have three losses on the spin after winning six on the bounce, but we’ve been here before and bounced back.

"We never went into the season with the sole aim of winning the league.

"We wanted to improve on our position from last season, get into the play-offs and if we could challenge for the title that’d be a good return. The title race is open and it’s not over for Dover."

Despite the recent slump in results, Forster is not about to lose faith in the players which have provided the platform for a promotion push.

He said: "That same group went six games, winning all six games and taking 18 points out of 18.

"That group is good enough and we’re third in the league, let’s not forget that. We’re right in where we want to be."

On Saturday, Whites travel to face a Farnborough side sitting three points outside the play-off spots but still reeling from a 6-2 reverse at Basingstoke on New Year’s Day.
