Deal rower Luke Moon keen to make his mark for TeamGB at Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney
rower Luke Moon is preparing to take on the cream of British
rowing, not to mention the world at the Australian Youth Olympic
Festival this weekend.
The 19-year-old (pictured) will
face British rival Jack Beaumont in the single sculls heats on
Saturday at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, where he
will also contest the men's quadruple sculls and men's eight.
Moon represented Britain at the
2011 World Junior Championships, winning the quadruple scull B
He said: "Having all the kit with
the Olympic rings on makes it special and adds something different,
maybe some more pressure.
"Because Jack and I are also racing
each other in the singles as well as taking on other countries,
there is a bit of rivalry between us too.
"When we race against each other we
are pretty much dead level so I am sure it will be a good
He added: "It is the first time I
will have competed in a multi-sport event so it will be nice to
meet other people from other sports and the experience will help
The former Sandwich Technology
School pupil added: "Events like this are important because you
gain so much when you race international competition.
"So doing that will help us at
future World Championships and at the next Olympics in Rio, which
is now the main target for everyone."
