Dover Athletic 2 Havant & Waterlooville 2
Dover
Athletic missed the chance to close the gap on the summit of Blue
Square Bet South after being pegged back to draw 2-2 at home to
Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.
Two goals in quick succession just before the
break set the Whites up for their sixth win in seven games under
Chris Kinnear (pictured), however two goals from the visitors in
the final half-hour meant Kinnear had to settle for the extension
of his side’s unbeaten run to seven games.
Tyrone Sterling headed a superb Lloyd
Harrington corner home to open the scoring on 37 minutes and Dover
had a two-cushion when defender Danny Webb, recalled in place of
the suspended Ian Simpemba, appeared to get the faintest of touches
to an inswinging Barry Cogan free-kick seconds before the
interval.
However the visitors, managed by one-time
Folkestone and former Portsmouth forward Lee Bradbury, made an
attacking switch at the break and piled on the pressure in the
second half with Shar Kabba halving the deficit on the hour and
then Christian Nanetti slotting home from close range 15 minutes
from time after some slack defending to snatch a point.
Leaders Welling needed a last minute equaliser
to avoid a 1-0 home defeat to Basingstoke, though second-placed
Salisbury – whom third-placed Dover face next Saturday - went level
on points with the Wings thanks to a 3-0 win over play-off chasing
Weston.
Fourth-placed Chelmsford were out of action
but fifth-placed Boreham Wood were held to a goalless draw at
8th-placed play-off chasers Dorchester.
