Marstons submits planning application to open new eatery in Faversham

By Bess Browning

A chain pub and restaurant could be coming to Faversham soon.

Brewers Marstons have nearly 2,000 outlets across the country and they have submitted a planning application for a “family-focused pub and restaurant” on the former Macknade garden centre site opposite the Shell garage in Canterbury Road.

The new business could create about 50 jobs for Faversham.

The site, which was a garden centre for many years and then temporarily a hand car-wash, has been derelict for more than a year.

It was acquired by Quinn property developers late last year.

Marstons spokesman John McElholm said: “Marston’s has submitted plans to develop a new family-focused pub and restaurant in Faversham.

“Marston’s is committed to working with local authorities and local communities to deliver 25-30 new pubs restaurants annually.

“The development will deliver between 40-50 jobs within the next 12 months if approved, not counting the construction jobs.”

Marston’s pubs range from their popular Pitcher & Piano bars to carvery-special restaurants and pubs.

They are just about to open a new outlet in Whitstable and there is another in Sittingbourne.
