Faversham people urged to attend key NHS meeting

People are being urged to attend a public meeting about the future of health and social care in the town tonight (Friday).

Campaign group Faversham Health Matters hope hundreds will turn out for the event at the Alexander Centre.

NHS bosses, MP Helen Whately and county councillor Antony Hook will be there to answer questions from the public.

A representative from NHS Property Services, which owns Faversham Health Centre, has also been invited along to talk about future plans for the site.

Other topics on the agenda include the health trust’s sustainability and transformation plan, which could see all acute services moving permanently from Kent and Canterbury Hospital, the fate of junior doctors and health cuts across the country.

There are also considerable fears growing that local health services will be unable to cope with plans for thousands of new homes in the area.

In a letter to the Faversham News this week the chairman of Faversham Health Matters, Brenda Chester, wrote: “The Clinical Commissioning Group, East Kent Hospitals, KCC Social Services, GPs, the MP and others will be there and the public will have the first opportunity in Faversham to question and challenge any of the proposals.

“We do hope as many people as possible will come to the meeting and help us secure quality and safe health and social care.”

Speaking about the meeting earlier this month, Jude Sach from Faversham Health Matters said: “We have already seen the withdrawal of outpatients clinics from Faversham and relocated to Estuary View, Whitstable, and the closure of Kiln Court residential home, and now Osbourne Court, which provided day care and respite breaks for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.”

The meeting will start at 7pm in the main hall at the centre in Preston Street.
