Faversham man Christopher Smith due at Medway Magistrates' Court after four-hour armed police siege

A Faversham man is set to appear in court after a dramatic four-hour armed police siege.

Christopher Smith, of Larksfield Road, is due at Medway Magistrates' Court today charged with criminal damage and affray.

The 50-year-old, who will appear in custody via videolink, was arrested by police at a council estate on Saturday afternoon.

Armed officers cordoned off Larksfield Road after reports a man was holed up in one of the houses and was refusing to leave.

They were responding to reports of a "disturbance" inside the property.

Negotiators spent more than four hours talking to the man from about 12.55pm.
