Disturbing note from teenager found in Ospringe woods

A couple from Boughton are encouraging young people who are struggling with mental health problems to seek help after stumbling across a heartbreaking note.

Danny Harris, 39, came across a handwritten message while foraging in woodlands in Ospringe in which the 13-year-old author says even self-harming isn't enough to cope with their problems.

The anonymous letter reads: "I know no one will see this but I have hope. There is so much **** going on in my life. I don't know if I can handle it.

"I self harm but I feel like it's not enough. I just need to get all this off my chest and this is the only thing I could think of doing."

Mr Harris's partner, Katie Cole, 44, is currently on a break from work due to her own struggles with her mental health, which led to her being hospitalised earlier this year.

She said: "I would like the person that wrote that note to know that people have seen it, and that people care, and that there are people out there that can help.

"It was ironic that my partner found it. It was like it was meant to be him that found it, because we know what it's like.

"I would encourage people to seek help. It doesn't matter who you talk to.

"I know from personal experience that it's a lot easier to talk to strangers.

"When your 13, the smallest thing can be absolutely huge, and it doesn't take a lot to tip someone over the edge. But there are resources out there."

Nick Harrop, media and campaigns manager at the mental health charity YoungMinds said: "If you're finding life difficult, don't suffer in silence.

"Talk to someone you can trust about how you feel.

"It could be a friend, a family member, a teacher, a doctor, a counsellor or a helpline.

"There's also a lot of information on our website about mental health and reaching out for help: youngminds.org.uk/find-help."

YoungMinds also runs a helpline for parents who are concerned about their children (https://youngminds.org.uk/find-help/for-parents/parents-helpline) and a list of other organisations providing support can be found at (https://youngminds.org.uk/find-help/your-guide-to-support/need-to-talk).

Police have been contacted about the letter.
