A man has been charged with carrying an air rifle in Faversham.

Firearms police and a helicopter descended on the town on Saturday following reports of a man in the Abbey Fields area who may have been armed.

Following police investigations, Daniel Powell, 35, from St Johns Avenue in Sittingbourne, was arrested.

He has since been charged with carrying an air rifle in a public place.

The weapon has been seized.

The suspect has been released on bail and will appear before Maidstone Magistrates Court on Friday, March 16.
