Faversham: Leading Light Wetherspoons staff call police as man enters pub with gun

Terrified staff called police when a man started waving a gun around in Wetherspoons.

Police were called to the Leading Light in Preston Street, Faversham just before 8.30am.

They arrested a man in the Faversham Creek area shortly before midday on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.

A Wetherspoons spokesman said: “A man came into the pub early this morning and started waving a gun around.

“Staff members were unaware whether it was real or fake.

“He then left the pub still waving the gun in the air.

“At that stage a member of staff called the police and as we understand it the man was found and detained.

“Staff gave the police all the information relevant to the incident.

“This was a very scary incident for staff and their safety is paramount.

“We will assist the police in any way we can.”

Up to four police cars were seen near the pub, which remained open.

The suspect has not yet been taken into custody.
