Faversham looking to complete Bostik South double over Phoenix Sports

Faversham Town manager Ray Turner believes his side can still achieve a top-10 finish in the Bostik South this season.

Town got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 home victory against Molesey, after losing four of their previous five.

Turner is hoping to use the win to build some momentum for the rest of the season.

He said: “I was pleased to get the win in front of our home supporters. It was an important result against a team who are behind us and it now cements us in the middle of the table.

“I still think we are capable of getting in the top 10. We have good players here, some may be lacking in experience but that will come.

“We can look forward now and play with a bit of freedom.”

Harry Stannard’s double was at the heart of Faversham’s win which lifted them to 16th. They face a tough test on Saturday at home to seventh-placed Phoenix Sports and Turner is hoping the win in their previous game will give his side confidence.

He said: “It was nice to come from behind and the second goal in particular was very nice.

“Against Lewes we played well and the scoreline didn’t reflect that. We have gone a few games without winning and when we went behind you start to worry about the team but the second half was great.

“Harry Stannard got the two goals and I was pleased for him as he had a reputation because he scored a lot of goals last year and was hoping to push on.

“Hopefully, this gives us a bit of momentum on Saturday. It would be nice to do the double over them.”

Last week Turner said Mark Lovell had been offered a role as a player/coach with the club.
However, the Town boss has said he is unlikely to be available for the remainder of the season so he can spend more time with his family.

He added: “It is about the player’s welfare and sometimes football has to come second.
“I still think he has a lot to offer the game and wish him all the best.”
