Faversham Town defender John Scarborough believes the Lilywhites are good enough to play in the Ryman League Premier Division

Defender John Scarborough claims Faversham are a Ryman League, Premier Division team in waiting.

The 36-year-old admitted to ‘relief’ after scoring as Town came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Dorking Wanderers in the Ryman League Division 1 South play-off semi-final on Tuesday night.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's play-off final at Worthing Scarborough added: “There was a lot of pressure on us. We put a lot on ourselves, to be honest, we know we are a good side and for me, we’re a Ryman Premier side.

“There’s a lot of young players out there who are only going to get better and I want to get them in the Premier and I know the manager does, too.

“We stood up and came back from 1-0 down not many teams would have had the attitude to do that. We put in a performance second half and more than deserved it.”

The goal was just Scarborough’s second of the season and he admitted: “The boys and I were laughing that I don’t score enough and I got an assist, too. I would rather have had the winner but Charley (Robertson) got it and I’m sure he’d enjoy it a lot more.”

Scarborough was at the heart of the defence that suffered penalty heartache in last year’s semi-final at home to Merstham.

He said: “Last year I couldn’t fault us. We did everything perfectly, we just couldn’t put the ball in the net. It

was just one penalty and the one that missed was probably the best of all of them.”
He added: “We need to set ourselves and go again on Saturday and make sure we leave everything on the pitch. I said that to the boys before Tuesday and we’ve done it.

“It’s a one-off game. Worthing are a good side but everyone can beat anyone on their day. We’ll go down there, be solid, and give them a game. Doing it the hard way is the most enjoyable way.”
