Ray Turner believes he has the best squad in his four seasons in charge at Faversham Town.

The Lilywhites’ 3-1 win at Whitstable on Tuesday was their fourth successive Ryman League, Division 1 South victory and moves them to within a point of leaders Burgess Hill, with the West Sussex side having two games in hand.

But boss Turner said: “It’s the best start we have ever made, second is the highest position the club has ever achieved but can they sustain it?”

He admitted: “A difficult question to answer in the present time. We have got power in the squad and it’s the strongest and best I have worked with. We have built slowly, the quality is there, we are a younger and quicker team.

“We have had to replace players every year and have done a good job in that."

He added: “We have been on a magnificent run and I thought we were devastating second half at Whitstable and could have scored more.

“We looked like a unit and a real prospect as a team and the run in October has been brilliant. Goals are coming all over the park, including 25 from midfield and I thought the two boys up front (Dean Grant and Jack Harris) were brilliant on Tuesday.”

Faversham visit Cray Wanderers in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Turner said: “It’s a winnable game and we go there with confidence but Cray have got some big players, including Shaun Welford and a substantial budget. It’s a surprise to see them third bottom in Ryman League North.”
