Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says he expects his team to be tested to the full by Ryman League Division 1 South rivals Ramsgate

Faversham manager Ray Turner is wary of the threat posed by Ramsgate as he tries to keep the table-toppers’ focus on one game at a time.

Town lead the way in Ryman League Division 1 South but have a potentially massive game looming next weekend against second-placed Merstham, only kept off the top themselves by a 1-1 draw at Herne Bay on Tuesday night.

That point at Winch’s Field point made it 32 from a possible 36 over their past 12 games for the Surrey side, who are only two points behind Town.

Burgess Hill are third on goals scored, though the Hillians, 2-1 winners at Ramsgate on Tuesday, have a swathe of games in hand.

Turner said: “It just goes to show how well we are doing that we are still clear of a side who have been on a run like that.

“Ramsgate signed some players and it’s an awkward game for us really. We have a really big game against Merstham the following weekend and it’s in our own hands to stay ahead of them.

“We can’t afford to relax, we got caught out against Hastings (a 5-1 home defeat last month). We want to keep our own run going.

“Ramsgate have got some dangerous players. I’m sure (Folkestone boss) Neil Cugley has allowed Joe Taylor to go there on a month’s loan on purpose. They also have my old captain Tom Hickman. They are going to be motivated against us, that’s for sure.”

Matt Bourne (calf) is close to a return and could feature at Ramsgate.
