Faversham Town manager Ray Turner wants revenge against Redhill to close gap on Ryman League Division 1 South top-spot

Ray Turner is in the mood for exacting some revenge when Redhill visit Salters Lane on Saturday to help Faversham close on the league leaders.

Town lie second in Ryman League Division 1 South after their 4-1 win at Three Bridges on Tuesday night and with leaders Burgess Hill in FA Cup action, could close the gap with a win over the Surrey side.

Redhill won just 13 of their 46 games as they finished third-bottom last season, however two of those wins came against Faversham and Turner admitted: “They took six points off us last season and we’re looking for revenge. We are not lacking motivation.”

He added: “Nine of our last 10 games have been away and we are looking forward to getting back home.

“Burgess Hill have won 15 games on the bounce in all competitions which is a remarkable achievement however you look at it, but if we were able to win on Saturday then we could find ourselves just four points behind them, so our start can’t have been too bad either.”

Tuesday’s game was the second time in a little over three days that Town had struck four goals on the road, after they cruised through their FA Trophy Preliminary Round tie at Beaconsfield on Saturday.

Turner said: “We tinkered slightly and went more attacking and I think it worked, so we’ll probably see more of that.

“We had to overcome a few problems to come out on top on Tuesday, we had to react to the sending-off and the injuries, but it was an excellent result.”

He added: “Forwards thrive on confidence and Jack Harris will take a lot from scoring all-four on Tuesday. We have done well lately in terms of goalscoring and both he and Dean Grant will be flying, plus we have Josh Stanford to come back on Saturday.”

Luke Harvey is aiming to play 90 minutes on dual-registration with Southern Counties East League Woodstock Sports on Saturday, in a bid to gain match-fitness while Aiden Sherlock serves a one-match ban but should return on Tuesday when Town take the short trip up the A299 to Whitstable.

Last season’s league games against Whitstable failed to produce a goal but with 43 goals in the 10 games at the Belmont this season, Turner added: “It’s all set up for plenty of goals. I’m sure it won’t be another 0-0.”
