Faversham set to sign Harry Stannard on loan from Margate to aid play-off bid

Ray Turner believes Faversham Town can still make the play-offs this season.

The Lilywhites are 20th in Bostik South, 12 points adrift of the top-six but their recent form has been good and time is very much on their side.

With more than half the season left and a cool head in the dugout, Faversham could yet put themselves in promotion contention.

Turner said: “One side of the management has got to be about moving the team into a safe position but there’s another side that’s got to be about moving into an area where we start becoming a dangerous team.

“We did this last year. We probably had less games left than we’ve got now and we almost made it into the top-five.

“There’s now an extra place up for grabs (with two teams going up automatically) so, with the history and what we’ve done in the last few years, I don’t believe anything’s beyond us.

“It’s quite an interesting league this year because of the limited number of relegation places. It will be interesting to see how ambitious teams are once they’re in a safe position.

“This club continues to be ambitious and I continue to be ambitious so that gives you another opportunity to potentially climb the table.

“We’re hoping to bring Harry Stannard in on loan from Margate. I spoke to Steve Watt on Monday and it’s just about getting the paperwork done for Saturday. It’s been agreed and I look forward to working with him.

“I appreciate what Steve’s done for me personally in terms of allowing a player of that talent to come out to us. It shows our group that we’re still looking to push on.”

Stannard could make his debut at home to mid-table South Park, whose recent form is mixed to say the very least. They were thrashed 6-1 at home by Corinthian Casuals last Tuesday before winning 3-0 at Sittingbourne on Saturday.

Faversham were on course for a fifth win in seven games at the weekend before a stoppage-time penalty earned their hosts Chipstead a 1-1 draw.

Turner said: “That would have lifted us three or four places and got us into that middle section.

“You feel two points got away but it shows we can go to these places and pick up results. Let’s keep putting points on the board and learn our lesson quickly.”

Renford Tenyue (hand) is back in training and fellow striker Liam King (knee) could rejoin the squad next week.
