Faversham Town boss Ray Turner reflects on a challenging season in Bostik South

Ray Turner will reflect on what has not worked for him as Faversham Town manager this season.

It has been a disappointing Bostik South campaign and the Lilywhites find themselves 19th with nine games left to play.

Turner has held his hands up and will be making changes ahead of the 2018/19 season.

He said: “It has been a disappointing season. The first person I need to look at is myself, which I will be doing over the next few weeks and at the things that have not quite worked this season.

“I had probably one of my strongest squads I’ve ever had at the beginning of the season and some of those players were taken away quite early on.

“The 5-0 win at VCD on the first day of the season seems quite a long time ago now.

“I’m pretty confident about what I need to bring in next season.

"It is the first time I have gone two seasons where I have not made the play-offs. I will maybe look at some of the things I have done in the past and reset a couple of things.”

Faversham are six games without a win but came close to getting something at promotion chasing Greenwich Borough on Saturday.

They lost 1-0 to a 72nd minute goal from Kaka Dembele.

Turner said: “There were a lot of positives to come out of the game. When you have time to reflect you see they did what top sides do and scored with their only really chance of the game.

“The negatives are that we created a lot more chances than they did but did not take them. There was nothing between the two sides and they know they nicked the result.

“If we would have converted our chances we would have won the game.

“The whole season we have lost games by the odd goal and we have to be more ruthless in front of goal.”

Faversham have added Ben Chapman from Gillingham and Jordan Wright from Folkestone on 28-day loans.

They face a trip to Guernsey on Saturday and the chance for three points against the side who sit a place below them in the table.

Turner added: “A win is not too far away. It is a long trip to Guernsey and they are always decent on their own pitch. It is important that we pick up results in the last few games of the season.

“It is a long day when you play at Guernsey but they have to do it every other week. It has been a good place for us in recent years.”
