It is believed an underground high voltage cable failed and the power was switched off.

A large electricity generator was brought in at around 8.30pm.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: "Engineers worked through the evening yesterday to restore power to 714 customers in the Warren Way, Warren Close and Burrow Road area of Folkestone after an electrical equipment fault at 4pm.

"Power was restored in stages with the final 136 customers back on at 12.20am. We appreciate how difficult it is to be without power and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
