Masked axe raiders hold up Cinque Ports Racing in Hythe High Street

Axe-wielding raiders are being hunted today after holding up a bookmaker's in Hythe.

Two masked men threatened the 69-year-old owner of Cinque Ports Racing, in the High Street, yesterday.

The victim handed over money before the pair - wearing full-length white paper-style suits - fled at about 6pm.

He tried to stop one of the robbers leaving the shop, but was unable to and received minor injuries in the struggle.

It is understood the raiders left the High Street through an alleyway beside a kebab shop.

Now Kent Police are urging anyone who might have seen two men acting suspiciously in the High Street to come forward.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to phone DC Jacqui Mennie on 01303 289406, quoting reference ZY/31818/13, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
