Broken down train at Folkestone Central causes cancellations and delays

Commuters faced delays of up to an hour due to a broken down train.

There were some cancellations on Southeastern between Dover Priory and Ashford International after the train broke down at Folkestone Central station.

The train operator arranged replacement buses to run through Folkestone Central, and travellers were able to use tickets on high speed services at no extra cost between Ashford and London St Pancras International.

The disruption has now cleared.

Meanwhile, a replacement bus service is running between Paddock Wood and Strood due to emergency engineering works and flooding at Maidstone Barracks.

The heavy rain and strong winds yesterday damaged lineside equipment.

Southeastern spokesman Alexandra King said: "Two trains were stopped by the broken-down train, and they are now on their way.

"The broken-down train has now been fixed.

"There will be follow-on delays, and these are expected until 9.30am.
