French coach driver reported after crash at Eurotunnel, Folkestone

A French coach driver, who was transporting nearly 50 children from the EU, is due to appear in court following a crash at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone.

It happened just before 12pm, involving a vehicle which was carrying 47 schoolchildren and five of their teachers.

Police were called to the scene following reports that a coach collided with the carriage when leaving the train.

The coach driver, a 37-year-old man from France, is being reported for summons for exceeding daily driving hours, failing to take a daily rest and driving a coach in a condition likely to cause danger to others.

Multiple serious defects were found on board as well and the vehicle was prohibited.

No injuries were reported.

The vehicle has been taken off the road and £1,500 has been taken from the driver as deposit ahead of his court appearance.
