Witness appeal after night-time robbery in North Street, Folkestone

A couple from Folkestone found themselves caught in a night-time street robbery at the weekend, sparking a police appeal.

Officers are wanting to talk to witnesses after the reported incident in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim and his girlfriend are said to have been walking up North Street between 1.30am and 1.45am when a man approached them from behind.

Detective Sergeant Nicky Holland-Day said: "The man spoke to the couple to get their attention and when they turned around, he grabbed a gold chain from the victim’s neck and ran down the hill towards the sea."

No injuries were reported.

The offender is described as black, aged about 20, 6ft tall and was wearing a dark top and jeans.

DS Holland-Day said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning and saw the incident or who recognises the description of the offender."
