Crumbling masonry on Jolsons nightclub prompts Tontine Street closure

Falling masonry from a nightclub today (Friday) sparked the closure of a main road.

Firefighters and Folkestone and Hythe District Council worked to make safe part of Jolsons Party Bar in Tontine Street, Folkestone from 9am.

A cordon was set up outside the nightclub to block off the road with motorists advised to seek alternative routes.

The road has since reopened.

Speaking shortly after the incident a council spokesman said: "We received reports of falling masonry at Jolsons Party Bar this morning.

"Our senior building control officer is on site with fire services.

"The road was temporarily closed to allow scaffolding to be erected and the immediate danger removed. The structure will now undergo a full condition check. The road has been reopened."

A fire service spokesman said: "Crews cordoned the area off and used a height vehicle to reach and remove loose materials."

Jolsons Party Bar has been contacted for comment.
