Former police officer George Giltrap, from Lyminge, faces jail for child sex offences

A retired police officer is facing jail after admitting child sex offences.

Pensioner George Giltrap appeared at Canterbury Crown Court today to plead guilty to inciting a child to send him explicit images of herself via the internet earlier this year.

Now, the 70-year-old, from Station Road, Lyminge, has been told he faces prison when he returns for sentence in November.

Giltrap stood in the dock as the charge was put to him, and replied: “I plead guilty. Yes sir.”

He then admitted two other sex offences and possessing an illegal image of a child.

Giltrap, who has white hair and a white beard, was told that Judge James O’Mahony had requested a probation report into his background before he can be sentenced.

His lawyer, Niall Doherty, successfully requested bail after telling the judge that Giltrap was a former police officer.

Judge O’Mahony told him: “You have pleaded guilty to very serious offences and custody is inevitable.”
