Group of 'Syrians' seized on suspicion of illegal entry into UK at J11a of M20

A group of suspected illegal immigrants believed to be from Syria have been detained by border force officials after being stopped by police.

A total of 10 men were arrested on the M20 near Folkestone this morning on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK.

Police were called at 7.15am to reports the group of people were seen getting out of the top of a tanker or lorry at the slip road to junction 11 for the STOP24 services near Folkestone.

Police remained at the scene while they worked with Border Force officials.

A Home Office spokesman said: “Home Office Immigration Enforcement was contacted by Kent Police after police attended an incident on the M20 in Kent.

“Ten men, all claiming to be Syrian, were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences and have been taken into immigration detention while their cases are dealt with.”
