Fire crews called to first floor flat in Dover Road, Folkestone, after small blaze starts in immersion heater

A faulty element in an immersion heater triggered a small fire in Folkestone today.

Fire crews were called to the first floor flat in Dover Road at 9.30am.

It is understood the element in the heater had worn out, causing the tank to overheat.

The surrounding insulation was damaged and the fire also started a small water leak.

Watch manager Harvey Dorling said: "The element had come to the end of its life and burnt out.

"It's a good job it was in the day - the resident smelt the burning and sounded the alarm.

"The fire was contained to the airing cupboard."
