Inquest date set for man who died after fleeing police through a window

An inquest date has been decided following the death of a man who fell from a second floor window while fleeing police.

Officers were trying to arrest Robert Goodey when he exited a property through the window in George Lane, Folkestone, on March 16 at 10.30pm.

The date of his inquest has now been set for Monday, June 11 at The Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone.

His death prompted an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which was then passed back to Kent Police’s Local Investigation Team last month.

Police have confirmed the matter is still ongoing.

A spokesman for the IOPC previously said: “When there is a death or serious injury by default the IOPC investigates.

“In this case we have looked at all the details presented to us and passed the case back to Kent Police’s Local Investigation Team to look at.

“I’m unable to go into a level of detail explaining why because there can be so many factors involved.”

After the fall Mr Goodey was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries but later died at Kings College Hospital in London.

A cordon remained in place between Rendezvous Street and The Old High Street for much of the day after his death while an investigation was launched.
