Canterbury Road, in Swingfield has been closed after a man was injured in industrial incident

A man in his 60s has died after he was crushed by a heavy load in an 'industrial incident'.

Police, ambulance and air ambulance arrived at the scene on Canterbury Road in Swingfield, Densole at 10.10am today.

It is understood the man was unloading building materials from a lorry at a nearby property.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance (SECAmb) said: "We were called at 10.10am to Canterbury Road in Swingfield.

"A man had been injured by a heavy load coming off a lorry, which crushed him.

"We sent three ambulance cars and one ambulance to the scene along with an air ambulance.

"The man was very seriously injured and had to be resuscitated at the scene.

"He was taken by road ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in a life threatening condition.”

Police confirmed that the man died shortly after in hospital after the 'industrial incident'.

He said: "Kent Police was called to assist South East Coast Ambulance Service following a report that a man in his 60s was injured following an incident on the A260 Canterbury Road, Swingfield.

"The man has died in hospital and the incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive."

The road, which is the main route to Canterbury, is closed and drivers face long delays.

Nobody else has been injured.
