Teen moped rider dies after crash with van in Capel-le-Ferne

A 17-year-old moped rider from Folkestone has died and a van driver has been arrested after a crash this morning.

The collision, between the boy and a white van happened just before 7am on the New Dover Road, next to the junction with Winehouse Lane in Capel-le-Ferne.

The teenager went into the stationary silver Peugeot flatbed van and now the driver, a 34-year-old from Ashford, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is currently in custody.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Scott Lynch from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are following up a number of lines of enquiry including viewing CCTV in the area.

“There are a number of drivers who may have witnessed this collision but did not have the opportunity to stop and leave their details.

"I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible.”

Road closures are currently in place on New Dover Road, Old Dover Road, Helena Road and Winehouse Lane.

Spokesman for the ambulance service, Rich Airey said: "We sent two ambulances and two ambulance cars.

"The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene."

It is understood that no one else was injured.
