Folkestone's Onyx nightclub building set to be demolished

Folkestone's Onyx nightclub looks set to be demolished next year after the owners submitted an application to pull it down.

Folkestone Harbour Company has sent the application to Shepway District Council.

A report prepared by Martello Building Consultancy for FHC says the work would involve flattening the site and levelling it with tarmac.

The application says that demolition is "necessary due to the dilapidated condition of the building".

It would pave the way for the redevelopment of the seafront and harbour area.

The nightclub closed its doors for the final time last month to the shock of thousands of Folkestonians.

FHC spokesman Peter Bettley said at the time there was an extension on the table for the nightclub to remain open.

Comments from the public are open until December 8.
