“A total 30 rods were taken along with other equipment from the garage, at a total value of £3,500 to £4,000.”

The burglary took place at Mr Reed’s home in Guildhall Street North, Folkestone, between 11.30pm on Friday and 6.30am on Saturday.

Mr Reed, originally, from Folkestone, met the band when he was running a tourism company in Norway, taking people out for fishing trips.

Mr Reed lived in that country for 15 years and moved back to Folkestone at the beginning of this year.

Two members of the band were filmed using the equipment in a scene from the 2013 concert film called One Direction: This is Us.

Harry Styles and Liam Payne are shown fishing from a boat in Norway around that May and giving an interview.

Mr Reed, 58, said: “In that scene they really chilled out and opened up, talking about their lives.

“Norway was always very laid back and you could leave your back doors open. Just a few months after I come back to Britain I get burgled.”

The equipment stolen also included a tackle box, two bicycles and a chainsaw and other tools.

Mr Reed, 57, was also assaulted outside the garage the evening before the raid, although he can’t say if the two incidents are connected.

At about 6pm on Friday, a group of yobs aged between 11 and 13 came over to him as he was sitting in his car with his legs out, talking on the phone.

They slammed the door against his legs. Mr Reed, who was with his two-and-a-half-year-old son at the time, said: “They saw the bicycles outside the garage and said: ‘Nice bikes.’

“When they slammed the door, it was painful but it did not cause lasting damage.”
