The road was closed for several hours, but reopened just before 4pm. Delays are now clearing.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters helped to free a woman who was trapped in the car. She was removed to hospital by a HEMS team."

Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: "We sent one traditional ambulance and a number of ambulance cars, along with our HART team.

"The patient in her 60s has been taken to Kings College Hospital in London as a priority with head injuries and suspected chest injuries."

Drivers have been warned to avoid the area, while the vehicles are recovered and the area is cleared.

Kent County Council's traffic update said: "Traffic is being diverted off of the M20 at J13 and onto the A259 Churchill Avenue.

"Approach with caution, expect delays on the diversion route.

"Traffic heading to the Port of Dover from mid and west Kent is advised to use the M2 and A2."
