Fir tree fire at Bouverie Road West in Folkestone

Two men were arrested on suspicion of arson, theft from a vehicle and interfering with a car.

Firefighters were called out to tackle a dramatic fire after a fir tree was seen alight outside Folkestone police station on Wednesday night in Bouverie Road West.

Police staff called the fire brigade at about 9.30pm, and firefighters spent 30 minutes at the scene.

Watch manager Harvey Dorling said: “The fire was going quite well.

“We moved a lot of the cars out of the way as the embers were flying everywhere.”
There were also reports of a car being broken into in Pelham Gardens.

Two men, a 23-year-old from Deal and a 34-year-old from Folkestone, were picked up by patrols in Sandgate Hill and subsequently arrested.

The 23-year-old was released without charge and the 34-year-old has been bailed until Thursday, October 6 while inquiries continue.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries continue but officers would urge anyone who has information or who may have been a victim to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 03-1634.”
