Staff at The Workshop in Folkestone slide to their desks with unusual office furniture similar to steel slide at Tate Modern

It's certainly different from all the office furniture you're probably used to.

But one of Folkestone's newest office spaces is embracing its uniqueness at having a metal slide from one floor to another.

You might think it child's play and while it is a bit of fun, bosses at The Workshop offices in Tontine Street say it is having a positive influence on its staff.

The stainless steel slide – similar to the one at the Tate Modern, albeit slightly smaller – has been a big hit with staff and can be a focus for other things than moving between floors.

Manager James Avery said: "It's something different. We were thinking of doing a video for it for charity.

"But not something dangerous. Maybe dressed up as superheroes."

He said it helped create the flexible and creative working environment The Workshop was trying to achieve.

The Workshop is already seeing success, with eight out of 20 areas taken up and more space to complete. The latest to move in is the Chamber of Commerce.

An industrial look may not be everyone's cup of tea, but in The Workshop it's not like you're standing in the middle of Battersea Power Station.

Several businesses operate within the open space environment rather than being closed off into smaller sections and this concept is gaining lots of positive feedback from staff.

The ground floor, known as The Factory Floor, is for new businesses while the remaining floors have office and meeting space. The building was redesigned and renovated last year by Hythe-based architects Guy Holloway.

They have designed several of the region's new and regenerated buildings including the new Folkestone Primary Academy, Rocksalt restaurant, and Cheriton Road sports centre.

And they are commissioned with plans for Dover Harbour and Ramsgate seafront.

Gimmick or not, sliding to your desk is definitely more fun than using stairs.
