Top Tory job for Howard

FOLKESTONE and Hythe MP Michael Howard has been appointed shadow chancellor by new Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith.

Mr Duncan Smith had moved overnight to appoint former leadership contender Michael Ancram as shadow foreign secretary, and has named him deputy party leader.

Other top jobs went to former leadership rival David Davis as party chairman, Oliver Letwin as shadow home secretary and Bernard Jenkin as shadow defence secretary.

Former agriculture spokesman Tim Yeo was named shadow culture secretary, former education spokesman Theresa May shadow transport, local government and regions secretary and John Whittingdale shadow trade secretary.

Quentin Davies has been named as shadow Ulster secretary and Jacqui Lait as shadow Scottish secretary. Damian Green becomes shadow education secretary, with Tim Collins as shadow cabinet office minister.
