Travellers on Radnor Park in Folkestone moved on as second group pitches up

Council officers were forced to take further action after travellers turned up at a town park just days after another group were moved on from elsewhere in the town.

A group arrived at Radnor Park in Folkestone last night just days after a court order was passed giving permission to remove an encampment.

Shepway District Council was granted a court order by magistrates in Canterbury on Friday morning.

It granted the council permission to remove the encampment - four cars and two caravans - from the St Mary’s Recreation Ground in Shorncliffe Road set up on June 19.

But last night's group is believed to be a different group who have also been pitching up in Cheriton.

A spokesman added: “We became aware of a travellers encampment at Radnor Park late [on Monday] night. We have already taken action and they have left this morning [Tuesday].”
