Travellers have moved off private land in Cheriton and onto nearby field

A group of travellers have upped and left private land... and set up again on a field five minutes away.

Seven caravans and six other vehicles arrived at The Stadium in Church Road, a site on Shorncliffe Heights in Cheriton, more than a week ago.

An order was granted by the courts on Tuesday giving travellers 24 hours to leave development land or face the bailiffs.

But instead of leaving the town, the travellers are now pitched up on land on the corner of Pond Hill Road and North Road.

It is understood that this is also owned by developers Taylor Wimpey who are building more than 1,000 homes in the Shorncliffe area.

A Shepway District Council spokesman said it was understood that Taylor Wimpey have agreed to evict the latest encampment from their land – and that a bailiff is being organised.
