Travellers set up camp in Freemantle Road area, Golden Valley, Folkestone

Travellers have moved into the Golden Valley in Folkestone.

They set up camp on open ground in the Freemantle Road area yesterday and five caravans were eventually seen there.

Enforcement officers from Folkestone and Hythe District Council are dealing with the matter.

Welfare checks have to be carried out before issuing a deadline for the travellers to leave.

Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, council cabinet member for communities, said: "This was reported to us yesterday afternoon and our enforcement officers are dealing with it."

Kent Police said that the travellers were on local authority land so the council would be in charge of moving them on.
