Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley hopes FA Cup run will free up some funds to strengthen his squad

Neil Cugley will ask the Folkestone board for more transfer funds if his side continue their FA Cup run later this month.

Invicta knocked out Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday to set up a home tie against lower-league Aylesbury United in the third qualifying round on September 30.

That earned them £4,500 in prize money to add to the £3,000 they won for getting past Greenwich Borough in the previous round.

Beat Aylesbury next weekend and their prize pot will be doubled to £15,000.

Cugley said: “We’re starting to struggle a bit with a few injuries so the squad’s getting a bit smaller now. If I could bring a couple in now or fairly soon... I’ll speak to the chairman.

“Especially if we could win the next round of the FA Cup we might be able to do that and that could just push us on a little bit.

“We’ll have to see how we do and have a chat with the directors. The next board meeting is early October so it’s perfect timing because by then, we’ll know where we are.”

Folkestone, ninth in Bostik Premier, resume their league campaign at home to second-placed Hendon on Saturday.

The Tooting win was their sixth in a row in all competitions and Invicta will host the London side lying just two points outside the play-offs.

“That’s all credit to the players,” Cugley said. “They’ve been excellent. Their attitude’s been
spot-on, the fitness levels have been high and we go now into another important time.

“Hendon are a good side, we’ve got to go to Tooting midweek and show we can do it there and then the FA Cup. It becomes an important time for us.”

Ian Draycott has a tight hamstring but Yusuff is fit although Cugley confirmed Salvyn Kisitu would be taking a break from football to sort out a hamstring injury.
