Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley hoping to bring in a new signing by the end of the week

Folkestone Invicta are closing in on a big-name signing.

So far this summer, goalkeeper Scott Chalmers-Stevens has been the only new arrival at the Fullicks Stadium – and he played a handful of games for Neil Cugley’s side last season.

But now the manager is set to add at least one more player to the squad which will compete in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Cugley said: "There will be a couple of players coming in.

"I hope to get something sorted out by the end of the week. It’s quite a big catch for us so hopefully that will come off.

"That’ll be a good one and we’ve got Chalmers-Stevens.

"At this level, you need a proper (back-up) goalie and he’s a good coach as well so he can coach Tim (Roberts). That’s worked out nicely.

"The player I’m looking at is versatile and the other person can play up front and that would be quite a big name for us.

"Hopefully, we’ll get that sorted out this week."

The majority of last season’s title-winning squad are staying on to test themselves at Step 3.

Cugley said: "It’s going all right. We’ve got nearly everybody coming back that played here last year.

"I don’t think anybody’s moved on. We’ve invited everybody back and they want to come back apart from Micheal Everitt because of his work and the league we’re in. Everybody else is coming back and off we go.

"It’s good that we got promoted. Players might have left otherwise because they’d done this league (Ryman South) for so long.

"We’re going with a squad of maybe 15 or 16. With so many games at our level, we’ve got to have players with the versatility to change things around."
