Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley has called on his players to be more passionate

Neil Cugley says the ‘intangibles’ of his Folkestone players will ultimately decide whether they are good enough to stay in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Invicta have stopped the rot after three straight defeats and just one win in six in the past week, seeing-off Thamesmead 2-0 in the Kent Senior Cup on last Tuesday before snatching a point with a late equaliser in a 3-3 league draw at Worthing on Saturday.

They welcome Kingstonian to the Fullicks Stadium this Saturday (3pm) and boss Cugley said: “I suppose you can look at the positives, and we’ve scored a few goals too. Joe Taylor has three in four games and Anthony O’Connor two in three, and we have Ian Draycott (ankle) fit for Saturday to give me some decisions to make.”

Ks have taken 16 points from their last eight games, having claimed just one from their opening four, and sit eighth, just five points but 11 places ahead of Invicta.

Cugley said: “Kingstonian are a big club and are always there or thereabouts at this level. It will be a good test for us. They have lost the same number of games as us but they didn’t have the best start which means they must have picked up a bit of form.”

He admitted: “I think we need to have a bit more about us. I thought the other day at Worthing that we have to be more passionate and really show what we’re about.

“We are never going to be the best side in this league so we have to make up for that in other ways like passion, work-rate and discipline.”

As well as Draycott, Cugley hopes Josh Vincent will recover from the groin strain suffered against Thamesmead which kept him out at Worthing though teenagers Euan Sahadow and Liam Jelley are out with injuries sustained for the youth team.

Nat Blanks could be back within three weeks after a broken bone in his foot though Cugley is running the rule over versatile former Ramsgate and Whitstable man Cameron Heffernan who can play in defence or midfield.
