Micheal Everitt has confirmed he will not play for Folkestone this season – but insists he isn’t retiring.

The 32-year-old midfielder is Invicta’s record-appearance maker, having played 606 games for the club since making his first-team debut in 1999/2000.

However, when Everitt lines up for Frankie Chappell’s testimonial game against Gillingham on July 7, it could be the last time he pulls on the amber and black stripes of Folkestone.

He said: "Work is going to stop me from playing. I run my own sports coaching business and it’s doing well at the moment, so it’s taking up a lot of my time.

"It was a straightforward decision (to stop playing) but it was a difficult one at the same time and one I didn’t want to make.

"I still think I could do another year or two but this was a decision I had to make. I’ve got a young family and football doesn’t pay huge amounts.

"The problem I have is that when I commit to something, I want to see it through.

"When I committed to football this time last year, I had some doubts as to whether I could get to every training session but I did make pretty much every one.

"I’m not saying I’m retiring. I’ve had regular chats with Cugs (Neil Cugley) and he’s left the door open for me in case things change."
